Even before the pandemic, there was much talk about the evolving nature of work: how it gets done, who does what and where it happens. The underlying thesis was that intranet portals, human capital management systems and internal communications no longer met the needs of their employees, who after all are a company’s most important assets. Given that workplace wellness and highly engaged teams deliver significantly greater profitability, a modern approach to employee engagement is essential.
To keep ahead of these fundamental changes, Prudential Financial – with its globally distributed workforce of more than 40,000 employees – made the strategic decision to embark on an ambitious initiative focused on workforce growth and talent retention as central pillars supporting the firm’s ability to adapt and grow. Prudential’s employee experience optimization is central to its digital transformation and business strategy.
Prudential engaged VShift to design and build a best-in-class employee experience platform to move the organization away from a disaggregated assemblage of nonintuitive software tools to personalized, employee-centered services. VShift’s solution was to create a simplified, mobile-ready employee engagement platform to assemble, for any given employee, the right internal communications, tasks and tools, the result of which would be to improve employee productivity, culture, alignment and job satisfaction.
One part of the platform was the award-winning MyPru, which brought together many of the tools employees use to manage their work lives: professional development, vacation scheduling and navigating the complexities of parental leave, along with providing easier access payroll, benefits management and performance reviews.
MyPru serves as the centerpiece of Prudential’s employee experience initiatives, and more generally as a model for how to support employees in the workplace of the future. The organization has credited MyPru for delivering improvements in employee satisfaction and retention, as well as productivity gains.
